Abstract

Global warming had been one of existing environmental problems important. Human activity has improved the amount of CO2 put released into the atmosphere as the combustion of fuel oil, solid waste, and burning fuel fossil. One of the efforts effective enough in reduce the carbon is plant trees that able to absorb carbon issued by vehicles and others. Plants capable of absorbing CO2 enough wait one of them plants mahogany (Swietenia macrophylla King). This study attempts to examine the potential reserve carbon and absorption CO2 in tegakan mahogany (Swietenia macrophylla King) on the university campus pupuk sriwijaya. The study is done in december up to february 2017. The method used in this research is method without harvesting (nondestructive sampling). The results of the study obtained the average diameter in of engineering faculty 50.46 cm , the faculty of economics the average 43,61 cm Law schools the average 57,44 cm with average for most people 48,19 cm .Biomass in of engineering faculty the average 249,47 ton/ha , the faculty of economics 144,75 ton/ha , and law schools 295,6 ton/ha with overall total in 1872,5 ton/ha and average for most people 208,05 ton/ha .Reserve carbon the faculty tenik the average 114,75 ton/ha , reserve carbon in economics faculty the average 66,58 ton/ha and law schools the average 135,97 ton/ha , with a total reserve carbon a whole 861,32 ton/ha and the average 95,70 ton/ha .Conclusions from the study is a plant mahogany swietenia macrophylla king have the potential in storing a reserve carbon and absorb CO2.
