Abstract

Rice plants is the main food crop in Indonesia, which in its development has begun to be cultivated in suboptimal land types such as peatlands. Conversion of peatlands causes the rate of C emissions to increase compared to sequestration C procces. This research was aims to determine the highest uptake of urea fertilizer and zeolite minerals on carbon sequestration of rice plants. This research was conducted in the greenhouse of Agriculture Training Center (ATC) Faculty of Agriculture, Sriwijaya University, Indralaya, South Sumatra in October 2018 to January 2019. Analysis of biomass and C-organic plants was carried out at the Soil Chemistry, Biology and fertility Laboratory Soil Department Faculty of Agriculture, Sriwijaya University. The research method used experimental methods with 9 treatment combinations where the dose of urea fertilizer combined with the zeolite mineral dosage used was 125 kg ha-1, 250 kg ha-1, 375 kg ha-1. Combination treatment of urea fertilizer 250 kg ha-1 and zeolite minerals 250 kg ha-1 gives the highest amount uptake of rice plant carbon sequestration of 6345.0 g while the combination treatment of urea fertilizer 125 kg ha-1 and zeolite mineral 250 kg ha-1 gives the lowest amount uptake of rice plant carbon sequestration of 2822.9 g over a period of rice plants. This research shows the combination of 250 kg ha-1 urea fertilizer and 250 kg ha-1 zeolite mineral are more efficient than the combination of 375 kg ha-1 urea fertilizer and 375 kg ha-1 zeolite mineral for rice cultivation on peatlands.
