Abstract
The purpose of this paper is to discuss and analyze the background and the impact of conflict toward Bentang Kuto Besak area, Palembang. The result showed that the conflict is resulted from the desire of societies, lawyers, NGOs, archeologist and historian to preserve and protect Benteng Kuto Besak area as the monument or historical remains in one side. On the other hand, military and investor more interested to rebuild the Benteng Kuto Besak area as mall or shopping areas. The conflict will resulted two possible outcomes. First, it will increase national solidarity, unity and tackle outside enemy in consequent it will create jobs, security and stability. On the other hand, if there is no consensus among pasties, it will causes instability in society. It is easy to be influenced by negative issues or other party. In order to solve the possible problems, it depends on the political will of the authorities.
