Abstract

The purpose of this research is to obtain a discriminant function to classify children aged 7 ? 15 years old, particularly who come from poor indicated families in Ogan Ilir, into groups of children who have risk to drop out or not. It is expected that those function can be used for consideration to prevent children who not attend primary education school. Observed factors that estimated as drop out risk factors, are age of head-household, father education, mother education, number of children in family, income and expenditure household, and parents and children motivations for studying, that is analyzed using Discriminant Analysis Techniques. Analysis is carried out on samples of 592 children who come from 352 households. The results showed that there were as many as 14.19% children have dropped out in primary education. The discriminant function was obtained show that the significant factors which determine group of children who have risk to primary education drop out are age of head-household, father education, both of parent and child motivation for studying. The value of cutting groups is -1.605, this means that for a child who has discriminant function scores less than or equal to -1.605, that child is included into the group of children who have risk to drop out. Although, for a child with discriminant function score is greater than -1.605, that child is included into the group of children who have not risk to drop out. The accuracy measure of this groupping function is that is 89.86%.
