Abstract

Laboratory experiments were conducted to evaluate the effect of ultra violet (UV) sterilized eggs of factitious host, Corcyra cephalonica (Stainton) on its parasitism by Trichogramma and percent of the parasitoid emergence. The experiments used six levels of the egg age: newly laid eggs (< 2 hours), six hours, 12 hours, 36 hours, and 48 hours old combined with four levels of duration of UV radiation 15 watt (control without radiation, 30, 60, and 90 minutes radiation). Result showed that the egg old of factitious host and the duration of ultraviolet radiation significantly affected to parasitize of the egg factitious host and parasitoid emergence. They also significantly affected egg C. cephalonica hatched. The younger host eggs (≤ 12 hours old) were parasitized by Trichogramma more than the older ones. Percent of the parasitoid emergence was higher on the younger eggs sterilized by UV for 60 minutes. The host suitability for the parasitoid rearing was on ≤ 12 hours egg old of C. cephalonica with 60 minute ultraviolet radiation.
