Abstract

Background: The prevalence of hypertension in adolescents varies, but it’s increasing worldwide. Hypertension can affect quality of life, so an assessment is an important thing to do in adolescents, because adolescents are assets of a country that are needed to ensure a bright future for a nation. The aim of this study was to determine the quality of life in adolescents with elevated blood pressure in Palembang. Methods: The study was a descriptive observational study with a cross-sectional design. Data obtained by measuring blood pressure using standard sphygmomanometer and filling in the PedsQLTM questionnaire to assess quality of life. Data were obtained from 514 high school students in Palembang who included in inclusion criteria. Results: The results of this study showed that out of 514 study subjects, adolescents with normal blood pressure have good quality of life (60.2%) and poor (39.8%), while hypertensive adolescents who have good quality of life (58.7%) and poor (41.3%). Conclusion: From this research it was concluded that poor quality of life most common in hypertensive adolescents.
