Abstract

Introduction: Heel pain may cause discomfort in musculoskeletal system. The most common cause is plantar fasciitis with/without calcaneus spur, but their relationship is currently debatable. This research aims to determines distribution of plantar fasciitis and calcaneus spur patients, distribution of calcaneus spur types in plantar fasciitis patients, and relationship between calcaneus spur and plantar fasciitis at RSUP Dr. Mohammad Hoesin Palembang. Methods: This research was an observational analytic with cross-sectional design. This research used medical record of plantar fasciitis and none plantar fasciitis patients at internal and orthopedic surgery department, have foot x-ray according to inclusion and exclusion criteria in medical record installations and radiology departments in RSUP Dr. Mohammad Hoesin Palembang. Data was collected and assessed according to this research, and be analyszed using chi-square test. Results: Of the 92 cases of heel pain, plantar fasciitis patient was 51 people (55,4%) and none plantar fascitiis was 41 people (44,6%). The highest proportion of plantar fasciitis was aged 28-37 years old, female, an entrepreneur worker, overweight, and type of spur is medium type. Prevalence of calcaneus spur in plantar fasciitis more higher than the comparison group was 32 people (62,7%) and 9 people (22%). Bivariat analysis showed there was association between calcaneus spur and plantar fasciitis, p value = 0,000, prevalence rate 2,858 and confidence interval (1,546 ± 5,285). Conclusions: There was a significant association between calcaneus spur and plantar fasciitis, and plantar fasciitis can increase prevalence of calcaneus spur 2,858 times more than none plantar fasciitis patients.
