Abstract

Background: Kersen parasite (Dendrophthoe pentandra (L.) Miq) has potential as aintidiabetes because it has secondary metabolites such as tannins, saponins, alkaloids, terpenoids, and flavonoids. Aim: The general objective of this study was to determine the antidiabetic potential of cherry parasite leaf infusion by measuring the inhibitory effect of cherry parasite leaf infusion on the α-glucosidase enzyme. Methods: This study was an in vitro experimental laboratory study using spectrophotometric methods conducted at the Biochemistry Laboratory of the Faculty of Medicine, Sriwijya University. The parasite leaves are obtained from local residents of several regions of Palembang. The 2 x10^(-4) ppm sample mother liquor was divided into 5 concentrations and then an inhibition test was performed. This study uses the acarbose as a positive control. Results: Based on phytochemical tests, cherry parasite leaf infusion contained flavonoids, tannins, terpenoids, and alkaloids and had IC50 values of 76,73 ppm. Conclusion: Cherry parasite leaf infusion has potential as an antidiabetic because it has an inhibitory effect on α-glucosidase enzymes with active strength.
