Abstract

Background: Nutrient intake has an important role in a person's nutritional status. Excessive or poor nutrient intake, which is incompatible with the energy used plays a role in the occurrence of nutritional problems. College students are people who study in college who mostly consume unhealthy and irregular foods. This study aims to determine the relationship of macronutrient and dietary fiber intake with body mass index in student of medical education program faculty of medicine sriwijaya university 2017 Method: This study is an observational analytic study with cross sectional design. Data were obtained from student of medical education program faculty of medicine sriwijaya university using written interviews 24-hour food recall questionnaire, height measurement and weight measurement. Results: Out of 60 students that took part in written interviews, showed that the nutritional status according to body mass index of the most students in the fat category was 40%, and 60% students were in the thin-normal category. In bivariate analysis, the relationship of carbohydrate intake with body mass index has p=0.009, the relationship of protein intake with body mass index has p=0.011, the relationship of fat intake with body mass index has p=0.002 and the relationship of fiber intake with body mass index has p=0.013. Conclusion: There is a significant relationship of macronutrient and dietary fiber intake with body mass index in student of medical education program faculty of medicine sriwijaya university 2017 Keywords: Body mass index, macronutrient intake, dietary fiber intake, 24 hour food recall.
