Abstract

Along with the development of the technological age has experienced many developments from time to time and also affect various manufacturers in the industry to produce components with superior quality, strong structure, and inexpensive economic value. Composite material is widely used because it has many advantages including, lighter weight, toughness, good strength and better wear resistance. As a new material, metal foam attracts more attention due to its low mass density, large surface area in limited volume, and high strength structure. In this research, the writer will fabricate copper foam with powder metallurgy method with variation of drying temperature and foaming agent in the form of egg yolk which is used for pore formation on copper matrix. Tests and observations made include X-Ray Diffraction (XRD) to characterize the crystalline phase formed, X-Ray Fluorosences to determine the chemical composition of copper foam, viscosity testing to determine the thickness value of the fluid, density testing to determine the density, testing press (Compression) to determine the mechanical strength and observation of microstructure through Scanning Electron Microscopy (SEM) testing.
