Abstract

Background: BMI is a marker that is often used for measuring the level of population weight. BMI can be influenced by physical activity. There are still many students who have deficiency in physical activity thereby increasing their BMI and impacting their health. This study was to be carried out with the title of the relationship of physical activity to body mass index in students of the Medical Study Program class of 2017 at the Faculty of Medicine, Sriwijaya University, Palembang. Method: This type of research is observational analytic with cross sectional design. The target population is students of the Medical Education Study Program class of 2017 at the Faculty of Medicine, Sriwijaya University, Palembang. The research results are then made with the chi square test. Result: This type of research is observational analytic with cross sectional design. The target population is students of the Medical Education Study Program class of 2017 at the Faculty of Medicine, Sriwijaya University, Palembang with the p value of 0,10 (p>0,05). Conclusion: The results of this study showed that there was no significant relationship between physical activity and body mass index in 2017 PSPD students in the medical faculty of medicine, University Sriwijaya, Palembang.
