Abstract

Objective of this research was to determine the best dosage of coal ash and compost application to improve availability of N, P, and K nutrients and to effect water spinach production. This experiment was carried out in Greenhouse of Soil Science department, Faculty of Agriculture, Sriwijaya University. The pot experiment was conducted in July 2011 up to December 2011. The treatment used was two factor treatments which were coal ash consisting of four level dosages which were 0, 50, 60, and 90 tons/ha and compost which consisted of three level rates, namely 0, 5, 10 tons/ha. The data obtained were tested using ANOVA, if the results showed the significance different of F test, the test will be continued by LSD test at 5% level and also by regression analysis. The result showed that the increasing dosage of coal ash was followed by the increase in availability of N, P, and K in soils and is also showed the linearity at any dose level used compost, but the coal ash combined with compost applied in Ultisols was not affecting crop production of water spinach. Increasing availability of N, P and K in soils was linear on the each level dose of compost used with the equation y = 0.086 + 0.0001x, y = 0.198 + 0.001x respectively.
