Abstract

The aim of this study is to determine the role of emotional labor towards burnout in nurses who work at RSUD Palembang BARI. The hypotheses of this study are emotional dissonance and emotive effort have a role towards burnout in nurses at RSUD Palembang BARI. The population of this study was nurses of intensive unit which consisted of NICU, PICU, ICU, and ICCU along with emergency unit in RSUD Palembang BARI. This study used saturation sampling as the sampling technique and by so the sample of this study was 67 person and 35 person for try out. Burnout was measured by the scale which referred to the dimentions of burnout from Maslach and Jackson (1986) and emotional labor with the dimentions of emotional labor from Kruml and Geddes (2000). The research used simple linear regression analysis. The result obtained for those hypotheses by value of P= 0,000 (p<0,05) which meant that emotional dissonance had a role for burnout while emotive effort had P= 0,254 (p<0,05) which meant that emotive effort had no role toward burnout.. It proved that emotional dissonance had a significant role by 92,2% and thus the hyphotesis is accepted.
