Abstract

RISTI NOVITA S. Application Spirulina (Arthrospira platensis) Cultured in Waste Water of Fish Rearing to Prevent Motile Aeromonas Septicemia Disease in Catfish (Supervised by MARINI WIJAYANTI and SEFTI HEZA DWINANTI). Spirulina (Arthrospira platensis) can be used to increase fish immunity due to its nutritional content. The nutrition content of Spirulina (Arthrospira platensis) is very dependent on the medium or source of nutrients used as energy for growth. The purpose of this study was to analyze the use of Spirulina (Arthrospira platensis) cultured in fish aquaculture wastewater to prevent Motile Aeromonas Septicemia (MAS) in catfish. This research was conducted from May to June 2019 at Laboratory of Experimental Pond, Aquaculture Study Program, Faculty of Agriculture, Sriwijaya University and measuring total of erytrocytes and leukocytes at UPT Health Clinic, Sriwijaya University, Indralaya. This study used a completely randomized design (CRD) with 3 treatments (T) and 3 replications. The first treatment was feeding the commercial pellets with the addition of Spirulina (Arthrospira platensis) 5 g kg-1 cultured in fertilizer media (T1), the second treatment was feeding commercial pellets with the addition of Spirulina (Arthrospira platensis) 5 g kg-1 cultured in catfish culture wastewater (T2), as a positive treatment control used feeding commercial pellets (KP), and all of the treatments given bacterial infection (Aeromonas hydrophilla) with deeping methods. The results showed that the catfishes which feed commercial pellets with the addition Spirulina (Arthrospira platensis) cultured in aquaculture wastewater (T2) had the same performance as catfish (T1). Both of them could protect catfish from MAS diseases very significantly. Catfish blood measurements, total of erythrocytes and leukocytes after infection for T1 were 1.99x106 cells mm-3 and 214.08 x103 cells mm-3 while T2 were 2.45x106 cells mm-3 and 218,66x103 cells mm-3. The prevalence values and survival rates of catfishes for T1 and T2 were 21.67% and 13.33%, 85.00% and 98.33% respectively. The range of water quality of media for this study were temperature 26.9-29.2 ᵒC, pH 6.5-7.4, dissolved oxygen 3.6-5.1 mg L-1 and ammonia 0.06-0.15 mg L-1. Keywords: Motile Aeromonas Septicaemia (MAS), catfish, waste water, spirulina (Arthrospira platensis).
