Abstract

Corn (Zea mays Saccharata Sturt L.) is one of the most important world's food crops, besides wheat and rice. In an effort to increase corn crop production there are various obstacles, one of which is an important disease attack of corn plants, such as leaf blight (Exserohilum turcicum), and leaf rust disease (Puccinia polysora) which can reduce production yields. The use of resistant varieties is an important effort to prevent wide spread of maize plant diseases. The study aims to determine the dominate disease, the incidence and the intensity of disease as well that attack on the leaves caused by fungi from several varieties of corn and the impact on production. This study used 4 varieties of corn which were used as a treatment, the method was done with Randomized Block Design. Each treatment was repeated 6 times. Variables observed included disease incidence, attack intensity, conidia size, number of leaves, and production yield in the form of cob weight. Based on the overall research results the use of several varieties significantly affected the incidence and intensity of leaf blight (E. turcicum) and leaf rust (P. polysora). Especially significant effect on paragon varieties. The disease that dominates each variety is leaf blight. For the size of conidia it was found that the conidia of E. turcicum and P. polysora had the largest size when attacking paragon varieties. As for the number of leaves, disease attack significantly affected the number of leaves of the love sweet variety. So that, the lower the disease attack, the higher the number of corn leaves. As for the results of the production of disease attacks have no significant effect on the weight of corn cobs. Keywords: Zea mays Saccharata Sturt L., corn varieties, leaf blight disease Exserohilum turcicum,
