Abstract

Chili is a vegetable crop that is much demanded by public. This crop is also marketable in international market. There are many varieties of chili found in chili cultivating areas in Indonesia. These varieties have their own characteristics in term of their responses to pathogen infection. Fungus and viruses are the causes of disease of chili that have impacts on chili production. Different varieties of chili, have different resistance to virus and fungal attacks. Therefore, this study aims to determine the incidence and intensity of pathogenic virus and fungal attacks in several varieties of chili. This research was conducted at the Experimental Garden, Faculty of Agriculture, Sriwijaya University from September to December 2019. This study used a Randomized Block Design (RBD) using 4 treatments with 5 replications. The results showed that viral diseases found in the fields were leaf curl and leaf yellow caused by viruses. The highest intensity of leaf curl diseases was found in variety of small cayenne pepper and curly red chili. While the highest jaundice was of cayenne pepper. Symptoms of frizzy disease are shown by plants is the leaves become small and curl while in jaundice the leaves will turn yellow and wrinkled. There were also significant differences in the yield of chilli plants in each treatment.
