Abstract

Schizophrenia is a persistent and serious brain disease which can make sufferers have psychotic behavior, concrete thinking, and difficulty in processing information, interpersonal relationships, and also solving problems. Some negative symptoms of schizophrenia are hallucinations and poor self-care. One of the expected ways to overcome the problem of hallucinations is by increasing the ability to reduce the frequency of hallucinations and self-care through Therapeutic Group Activity (TAK). This study used a quasi-experimental design with a non equivalent approach to group design control. The sample in this study was 34 patients obtained from simple random technique. The data collection used observation sheet, and the data analysis used marginal homogenity and mannwhitney. The results showed that there were significant differences in the frequency of hallucinations in the intervention group and the control group with a p-value 0.0001 <0.05 (α), a significant difference between the intervention group and the control group in terms of self-care ability with p-values 0.008 <0.05 (α). In this study therapeutic group activity had an effect on reducing the frequency of hallucinations and increasing the ability of self-care in schizophrenic patients. Research implications are expected to be able to develop the application of TAK to control the frequency of hallucinations and self-care ability for patients. Therapuetic group activity is proven to be very effective on the client hallucinations in order to reduce the frequency of hallucinations and improve self-care ability. Keywords: Hallucinations, self-care, and therapheutic group activity.
