Abstract

Diseases suffered by more than half of the population in developing countries are caused by parasitic worm infections. The impact of anemia on school children can cause physical growth disorders, low body resistance to disease, decreased ability and concentration to learn, and slow rate of both body cells and brain cells growth. The purpose of this study was to evaluate the program of the mass drug distribution for intestinal infecion. Qualitative research design using the CIPP evaluation model approach (context, input, process and product) was employed. Expert informants were health workers and supporting informants were school-age children at the Padang Selasa Health Center working area, Palembang. Data collection techniques were carried out by in-depth interviews, document review and observation. Validity test of the data was done using triangulation technique source, method, and theory. Finally, data processing was done descriptively. The results showed that based on the context, the estblishment of the program from situational factors in which the prevalence of worm infection in Palembang City was 30%. This program aims to reduce the prevalence of the infection. The main target is all children aged 6 to 12 years. In the input of limited human resources and limited facilities for infrastructure extension. In the program implementation process, there are 4 primary schools that have not yet received the drug albendazole. In the product achievement, the program had not reached the target of 75%. The program of the mass drug distribution for intestinal infection was not optimal yet. Therefore, it is expected that the puskesmas will increase human resources and improve supervision of the distribution of worm medicine during implementation.
