Abstract

Abstract 　　 Nationally the wetland resources has an important role in producing food, especially rice. However, the development of land area of rice fields in Indonesia is increasingly shrinking, one reason is the conversion (transfer function) to non wetland rice fields. The problem of increasing land conversion will bring the limited impact of rice fields, it is because most of the existing wetland pond are used for fish cultivation. The development of the fishery which increasing are needs much land, the limited land in the courtyard, the demand of space for fisheries will used for rice field. This research aims to asses the factors that influence the farmers decisions to convert rice fields into fish ponds, to assess decision-making stages of rice farmers to convert rice fields into fish ponds, and assess the relationship between the factors that influencing the decision of making by farmers to convert rice field into fish pond. The basic method that used is a quantitative approach with survey techniques. The determination of research location have done by purposive in Megang Sakti District. The sampling using multystage cluster random sampling method by 30 respondents from five villages, namely Megang Sakti IV, Pagar Ayu, Tri Sakti, Megang Sakti III, and Megang Sakti I. The methods of data analysis that used was Multiple Linear Regression and Spearman Rank correlation test. 　　　　The results of the study show that (1). The decision of rice farmers to convert paddy fields into freshwater fish ponds in Megang Sakti District, Musi Rawas Regency is included in the very appropriate criteria with an average score of 7.49. This means that the decision of rice farmers to convert paddy fields into freshwater fish ponds in Megang Sakti Subdistrict is very appropriate based on 5 indicators of decision-making stages, namely the stages of knowledge, persuasion, decision, implementation, and confirmation. (2). Based on multiple linear regression analysis, the factors that significantly influence / significantly influence the decisions of paddy farmers to convert paddy fields into freshwater fish ponds are age variables, education variables and land area variables while income variables have no significant / insignificant effect on ɑ = 0.10 to the decision of rice farmers to convert paddy fields into freshwater fish farming ponds. (3). There is a relationship between the factors that influence the decisions of rice farmers with the decision of rice farmers to convert paddy fields into freshwater fish ponds where rs count is 0.349 greater than rs table (ɑ = 0.10) of 0.3061, meaning H0 is rejected. 　　 Keywords : Converting, Fish Pond, Paddy
