Abstract

The study of the contact angle of the silicone rubber (SiR) insulating material given plasma exposure was carried out. Tests carried out on samples in the form of SiRsheets with a thickness of 1mm. Each sample is made in sizes 50 x 50 mm. The treatment of plasma exposure to the surface of the sample is done by giving exposure to plasma produced from dielectric barrier discharge (DBD)given pure oxygen. The treatment is given as a varied time function, each, namely: 5; 20; 35; 50; 65; 80; 95; 110; and 125 seconds. Shortly, after the sample was exposed to the plasma, the surface of the area was dripped with 3 drops of water (8-9mg) using a 23G injection needle. The contact angle is measured by recording images of water using a digital microscope equipped with a camera and connected to a computer, which uses Motic Image Plus 2.0 software. The test results found the trend of the value of the contact angle increased which is directly proportional to the length of exposure given. This phenomenon can occur because the surface of the silicone rubber insulation that has long exposure becomes finer because the surface pores are reduced or reduced so that the water-repellent (hydrophobic) nature of the material increases. Or in other words, exposure to plasma on the surface influences changes in the insulation surface and increases the contact angle.
