Abstract

Watertable levels fluctuate throughout the year. Based on the value of the groundwater level, we can determine the most suitable cropping pattern that can be applied in tidal lowland. Therefore, it is necessary to measure groundwater fluctuations to determine planting time. The physical properties of the soil such as texture, total pore space, weight content and hydraulic delivery also affect groundwater surface fluctuations. This study aim was to study some physical properties of soil and fluctuations in groundwater levels for rice plants. This study was conducted in the tidal land of Banyu Urip Village P17-6S Tanjung Lago District, Banyuasin, South Sumatra, in tertiary plot 7. The study had been conducted from January to March 2019. The method of this study was carried out by direct observation in the field. Results of the analysis of physical properties of soil in the laboratory showed that the soil texture was predominantly clay and clayey loam, while the lowest bulk density was 0,89 g per cm3 in T2L1 and the total pore space with the highest percentage was 66% in T2L1. The results showed watertable fluctuations from January 2019 to March 2019 were vary. The highest watertable level occurred on February 11, 2019 with -13 cm below the soil surface and the lowest occurred on February 24, 2019 which reached -38 cm below the soil surface. The highest yields in plot number 7 reached 9,1 tons GKP per ha, with clayey clay texture, bulk density in T7L1 0,92 g per cm3, in T7L2 0,95 g per cm3, total pore space in T7L1 65% and in T7L2 64%.
