Abstract

The effect of plasma exposure on changes in the surface resistance value of insulating material in the form of polymers Low-Density Polyethylene (LDPE) has been studied through testing which refers to the ASTM D257 standard. The sample is a sheet with a thickness of 115 µm, each of which is made in a size of 7 × 7 cm. In this study to obtain plasma bursts (plasma sprayer) carried out by passing pure oxygen (O2) through a gap dielectric barrier discharge (DBD) which is given a high voltage. LDPE sheets that will be treated are placed at a distance of 5mm under the plasma sprayer. Plasma exposure is given in various times ranging from 30; 60; 90; 120 to 150 seconds. As a control, LDPE samples that were not given exposure were used. The results showed that the surface resistivity value of the LDPE sample had increased following the increase in the length of time the exposure was given. Changes that occur in the form of an increase in the value of sample surface resistances that arise in extreme occur in samples given between 30-60 seconds exposure, which reached 265% or 4 times compared to the initial conditions without exposure.
