Abstract

Anthracnose is a type of airborne disease that can attack various types of plants including fruits, vegetables, ornamental plants, even shrubs and cognates. This disease can reduce of yield between 20% to 90%. The pathogens that cause anthracnosis are Colletotrichum spp. This research was conducted at the Laboratory of Phytopathology Department of Plant Pests and Diseases Faculty of Agriculture, University of Sriwijaya of the month August 2018 to January 2019. This study used a completely randomized design (CRD) with two experiments that inoculation cross and cross protection. Each consists of 10 replications and in one replication consists of 5 units. The experimental results show that cross inoculation can take place between C. gloeosporioides from mango and C. gloeosporioides from papaya. The cause of anthracnose in mango and papaya is Colletotrichum gloeosporioides. Mango and papaya can respond positively to cross-inoculation of anthracnose causes in both hosts, C. gloeosporioides from mangoes can infect papaya and C. gloeosporioides as long as papaya can infect mango. From this study it can be concluded that the inoculation of cross-protection between anthracnose causes in mango and papaya does not indicate the potential for cross-protection because of the ability of Colletotrichum gloeosporioides to infect hosts that are not naturally occurring in a wide range.
