Abstract

Cataracts are opacities in the lens of the eye which cause vision problems. Cataract prevalence in Indonesia in 2013 was 1,8% and based on 2014 IFLS data cataract prevalence increased to 4,6%. To be able to reduce the number of cataracts, it is necessary to know what factors are involved so that the solution can be given properly so that it can reduce the number of cataracts. This study uses secondary data of 2014 IFLS, to determine the factors that influence the incidence of cataracts in Indonesia. This research is a quantitative study using a cross-sectional study design with sampling using multistage random sampling so that a sample of 13.806 is obtained that matches the inclusion and exclusion criteria. Analysis of this research data using complex samples analysis consisting of three stages, namely univariate, bivariate using chi square test and multivariate using multiple logistic regression prediction model. Glaucoma variable is the most dominant variable influencing the occurrence of cataracts after being controlled by confluence of age, sex , education, type of area, smoking status, history of hypertension history of diabetes (PR = 11,288; 95% CI = 8,160-15,616). Suggestion for research is the need for the use of protective equipment for workers who work outside the field to avoid sun exposure and conduct eye health checks.
