Abstract

Background: Diarrhea disease is still becoming world health problem, especially in developing countries. The size of the problem can be seen from the high number of morbidity and mortality diarrhea. Diarrhea can be caused by several factors that include behavioral, environmental, and health services. Method: This study is a survey research with the analytical cross sectional approach. The sample of this research is children aged 6-24 months in the 11 Ilir health center area Palembang, amounting to 83 people with the mother as the respondent. Sampling technique is proportional random sampling. Result: Results of research shows that the percentage of diarrhea occurrence in children aged 6-24 months is 42.2%. The statistical results of this research are as follows, there is a significant relation between exclusive breastfeeding (p value = 0.017), the MP ASI (p value = 0.027), hand-washing habits (p value = 0.010), and the use of latrine (p value = 0.046) and diarrhea incidence in children. Conclusion: Conclusion of this research is there is significant relation between of exclusive breastfeeding, MP ASI, hand-washing habits and the use of latrine with diarrhea incidence in children aged 6-24 months. Suggestions of this research by giving intensive and sustained counseling by health workers about the factors associated with diarrhea outbreak, to raise awareness for the public to change the bad habits that can cause diarrhea disease in children under five years.
