Abstract

Liquid waste of oil palm mill (OPM) will create problems if it is discharged into environment because it can cause pollution in forms of BOD increment and high concentration of chemical elements in water bodies. Liquid waste of OPM contains nutrients such as N, P, K, Ca, and Mg as well as water as main solvent for nutrients. Nutrients and water that are needed by plants can be supplied through fertigation technology (fertilization through water) or also known as land application. The research objective was to determine nutrients content within soil at depth of 0-30 cm and 30-60 cm at distances of 1 m, 2 m, and 3 m from waste storage ditch (flat bed) and nutrients content of N and P in leaves of oil palm crop. This research used observation method by measuring flatbed with dimensions of 6 m in length, 1 m in width and 0.6 m in height. Soil sample was subsequently taken at soil depths of 0-30 cm and 30-60 cm with distances of 1 m, 2 m and 3 m, respectively.Soil sampling was done with three replications and subsequently was compared with control (without fertigation or land application). Leaves sample were taken from surrounding crop having age of 6 years and then were composited for analysis of Nitrogen and Phosphate. The results showed that Nitrogen content in leaves of oil palm crop treated with fertigation (3.42%) was higher than that of control (3.25%) and Phosphate content in leaves of oil palm crop treated with fertigation (0.207%) was higher than that of control (0.192%). Organic matter, Nitrogen and Phosphate contents at soil layer of 0-30 cm at distances of 1 m and 2 m with fertigation treatment were not different than that of control, but the increase of these nutrients content were occurred on treatment with distance of 3 m. Analysis results of soil nutrients content at depth of 30-60 cm showed the increase of organic matter and Nitrogen compared to control treatment, except for Phosphate nutrient.
