Abstract

The presence of plastic waste has become a threat to the environment and aquatic organisms, cause the process of plastic degradation to become microplastic takes a long time. One of attempts to reduce the impact is by using bacteria. This study aimeds to identify the types and determine the ability of bacterial isolates to degrade microplastic. The water samples and sediment samples were takes by using a micronett with a mesh 300 μm and ekman grab in 3 station point. Microplastic samples were calcified by light microscope, bacterial samples for isolated and identified by VITEX-2 Compact. For degradation test ability bacterial by using low￾density polyethylene (LDPE) with an incubation period of 20 days. The results show that there are 3 types of microplastic identified from water and sediment samples, which a film, fragments and fiber. The sixs bacteria were isolated, which were grouped into Gram Negative bacteria, cream and round. The species identified were 5 bacterial species and all of them had the potential to degrade plastics. The types of bacteria that was been identified were Vibrio fluvialis, Serratia marcescens, Pseudomonas oleovorans, Aeromonas hydrophila and Shewanella algae in average degradation capabilities of 0.12% / day.
