Abstract

Postpartum blues is a mild affective disorder syndrome that often appears in the first week and attacks within 14 days after delivery. This disorder can increase the risk of complications during pregnancy and after childbirth, such as the occurrence of miscarriage, LBW, premature labor, stunting, diarrhea, non exclusive breastfeeding, while for the long term, it can affect the development of cognition, behavior, and emotions in children who was born. The incidence of postpartum blues in Indonesia is 50-70% with an incidence in Palembang City of 46.7%. The purpose of this study was to determine what factors influence the occurrence of Postpartum Blues in Mother Postpartum at RSUP Mohammad Hoesin Palembang. This study uses a cross sectional study design, sample selection is done by simple random sampling on all subjects who meet the inclusion and exclusion criteria as many as 93 respondents. Data analysis was performed univariate, bivariate and multivariate and presented in tabular form and interpreted with narration. The results showed the incidence of postpartum blues in this study was 46.2%. The analysis showed that there was a relationship between parity (p = 0.035), pregnancy status (p = 0.037), and family support (p = 0.019) and postpartum blues. It can be concluded that family support is the most dominant factor in the occurrence of postpartum blues after being controlled by variables of parity, pregnancy status, education, income and knowledge (PR = 4.323; 95% CI = 1,270 - 14,714). Suggestions of this research are expected that women who plan to have children have insights about what postpartum blues are and how to prevent them, for health care agencies to be screened using EPDS and counseling, and further researchers are expected to be able to examine other risk factors that might affect postpartum blues.
