Abstract

Basal stem rot that caused of Ganoderma boninense Pat., is one of the main important diseases attacking oil palm plants. Pathogens can survived a long time in soil and symptoms would appeared after disease severity high. The aims of this study was to determined the effectiveness of the water yam plant against oil palm stem rot disease on sterile and non-sterile soils and to evaluated the effect of water yam plant exudated on the growth of G. boninense mushrooms. The study conducted in a greenhouse and laboratory. The variables that observed were percentage of the necrosis root, aggressiveness of pathogen, and weathering of inoculum sources; growth variables, namely dry weight, leaf area, height and length of the root; and diameter of pathogen inoculum growth. The results showed that treatment of water yam plants in unsterile soil could suppressed the aggressiveness of G. boninense, but did not affect weathering pathogenic inoculums and plant growth. Treatment of water yam in sterile soil did not affect to pathogens and plant growth. In a laboratory experiments was not found suppression of roots exudate water yam on growth of G. boninense culture, G. boninense inoculation and water yam planting was not significantly inhibited the growth of oil palm seedlings.
