Abstract

Palembang City, the capital city of South Sumatera Province is the second-largest city in Sumatera Island. Being the second-largest city, here can be found many higher education facilities that already attract people especially students in the national scale of Indonesia such as Universitas Sriwijaya and Politeknik Negeri Sriwijaya. The popularity of both colleges were continued to rise over time until the point where land capacity could not support what demanded by the student in near future.Therefore the concept of apartment is the best solution to answer the issue of quality and quantity in providing student settlement. Efficient and flexible units indeed required in order to reduce the living cost yet still be able to provide the resident amenities. The concept of low energy consumption used here. As example the apartment designed with open coworking space on the third floor. It supports low energy consumption by providing natural wind circulation. The design of the student apartment already adapted/adjusted to support the local climate and geographic in The City of Palembang. The strategy used were 1) adjusting the building orientation to face the wind direction, 2) (utilizing natural air circulation by providing openings in the central corridor of the building), 3) reuse the rain harvest and (toilet waste water for reuse for plant flushing and irrigation), 4) (using large window openings to take advantage of sunlight), 5) (using sunergy glass material that is able to save energy by resisting heat and UV rays from the sun up to 87%) 6) (using secondary skin in the form of wooden lattices,), 7) (the presence of plants on the floor decks which serves to provide oxygen intake, and cool the building as well as building filtration.) The building foundation structure used is bore pile, it can support large building, more effective, and does not cause vibrations in the installation process. The structure used for the building is rigid frame that already adjusted to support the building layout. The layout designed efficiently with minimizing the volume of spacein order to reduce the energy consumption of AC (Air Conditioner).
