Abstract

This study aims to learn the growth and yield of sorghum plants in response to different volumes of water and watering time. This research was conducted from September to December 2019 at Unit of the Faculty of Agriculture, University of Sriwijaya, Indralaya Utara, Ogan Ilir. This research was arranged on randomized block design which consists of treatment P1 = Watered in the morning with 100% water volume (2 L), P2 = Watered in the morning with 75% (1.5 L) water volume, P3 = Watered in the morning with 50% (1 L) water volume, S1 = Watered in the afternoon with a water volume of 100% (2 L), S2 = Watered in the afternoon with a water volume of 75% (1.5 L), S3 = Watered in the afternoon with a water volume of 50% (1 L). Watering treatment is carried out when the plants are 70 DAP to 76 DAP. Results of the study showed that different watering treatments on sorghum plants were significantly affected the level of greenness of the leaves and fresh weight of roots, but were not significantly affected the plant height, leaf number, stem diameter, stem weight, stem dry weight, panicle weight per plants, seed weight per plant, seed weight of 1000 grains, root dry weight, stem and root ratio, flowering days, harvest days, and moisture content of seeds. Watering as much as 1.5 l / 15 kg of soil (75% field capacity) for 7 days (a week) when the plants are 70-76 DAP (generative phase) for sorghum plants produce more weight of seeds / plants compared to other treatments.
