Abstract

Increasing population numbers and human lifestyles have an impact on the needs of energy resources. Therefore, an alternative to new energy resources is needed. The new alternative energy resource is originated from cattle dung, it will be fermented and becomes renewable energy resource calls biogas. Utilization of cattle dung into biogas is one of the proper alternative energy since it can overcome the problems of fossil fuel and help the farmer to process their cattle dung. This research aimed to study the performance of fiber water tank biogas digester with a continuous culture system. A descriptive method based on the field observation was applied to this research. Fermented cattle dung was processed in 1200 liter modified water tank, the cattle dung was diluted with plain water in 1 : 2 ratio (45 kg cattle dung and 90-liter water). Produced biogas was stored in two polyethylene container (1.5 x 2 m and 1.5 x 4 m). Observed parameters were biogas digester headspace volume, effluent volume, and pressure on the biogas production period. Based on the field experiments, 33.12 m3 biogas were produced and the optimum temperature to produce biogas was 28 - 33oC, pH 6.8 - 8 which considered normal, pressure on biogas production period were double-sampled within 10-day observation on 09.00, 12.00 and 15.00, the highest pressure was 4 Kpa.
