Abstract

Background:. Hydrocephalus is a pathological disorder of the brain that results in increased cerebrospinal fluid with and ever with elevated intracranial pressure, resulting in dilation of the ventricles. The infusion procedure is a procedure that causes discomfort for the baby due to the pain felt when the procedure is carried out. Reaction to injury or pain is expressed subjectively by the neonate with crying. Various attempts were made to minimize pain and increase comfort for babies both independently and collaboratively. Non nutritive sucking (NNS) and sucrose are also one type of nonpharmacological treatment that can be given to infants who receive invasive procedures. Purpose: The writing of this scientific paper aims to explain the nursing care of hydrocephalus infants by applying a combination of non nutritive sucking and sucrose to the infant's pain response by invasive measures. Methods: A qualitative research uses a case study approach by providing nursing care to 3 hydrocephalus infants who are carried out invasive actions. The sample in this study came from the Infection Room 1 Hospital Dr. Mohammad Hoesin Palembang. The method of searching articles is starting from the last 10 years (2009-present), research using electronic data bases, namely ProQuest, PubMed, Google Scholar and Science Direct Results: Based on the results of the study it was found that all three patients had a primary diagnosis of hydrocephalus infants who performed invasive measures with nursing problems that appeared were acute pain. Conclusion: Based on evidence based nursing actions that can be performed on acute pain nursing problems associated with physical injury agents characterized by invasive procedures that is by giving a combination of non nutritive sucking and sucrose. Keywords: Hydrocephalus, Invasive action pain, Non Nutritive sucking and sucrosa
