Abstract

Mangroves are the main community on Payung Island, which is located in Musi Estuary, Banyuasin Regency, South Sumatra. Monitoring the condition of mangroves on Payung Island needs to be analyzed with more effective and efficient methods. The purpose of this study was to analyze mangrove coverage based on Normalized Difference Vegetation Index (NDVI), the condition of basal area-based stem cover, the distribution of mangrove canopies based on the Gap Light Analysis Mobile Application (GLAMA), and the mangrove condition index, respectively. This research was conducted in January - February 2020 using the Sentinel-2 image in 2019. This research used the field survey method and image data processing. The results showed that the correlation value between NDVI values and basal area was low (r = 0,3196). The values of NDVI and leaf canopy coverage based on GLAMA had high correlation (r = 0,8628). The level of the map accuration was 77,78% categorized as high accuraction. The total area of mangrove in Payung Island was 492,42 ha, consisted of 483,72 ha in dense condition (98,23%), 1,46 ha (0,30%) in medium condition and 7,24 ha (1,47%) in rare conditions.
