Abstract

The course scheduling system is one of the problems that being faced by the university, which has a high complexity to deal with by arranging the components in it such as subject, room, time, and lecturer in charge. Currently, the scheduling system in Electrical Engineering Major at Sriwijaya University is attached to a manual way thus take a long time and inefficient. To help the staff in the major efficiently arranging the schedule and take less time, a web-based scheduling system was designed. With a simple user interface and had some essential features that suit the needs of arranging the course schedule. The course scheduling system can be accessed by two parties, the admin and the lecturers. During the scheduling process, an algorithm that can help to discover a solution is crucial. Genetic Algorithms are chosen to solve the problem in the scheduling system. Genetic Algorithm is chosen because it has the ability to select and filter solutions that can help. Data collection and system development of Rapid Application Development (RAD) is being used as the methodology in designing the course scheduling system. The final result of this web-based scheduling system is a course schedule of the Electrical Engineering of Sriwijaya University. System test showed 90% of course schedule has been arranged properly with the duration of time 2 minutes and 3 seconds.
