Abstract

Red bricks are one of the main ingredients for the construction of a building that is processed by drying and combusting it at high temperatures for a long time. Generally, the brick burning process still used a fire furnace, which causes the combustion process becomes uneven and takes a long time. This uneven combustion is expected to be overcome by the use of a brick’s drying and combustion system. The purpose of this research is to design a brick’s automatic drying and combustion system. The system was equipped with a time and temperature sensor that is implemented by the PID controller with the Arduino microcontroller to get the maximum result with a minimum cost. The system that successfully created was made by a metal conveyor with a DC 12 V motor controlled by the use of motor drivers and Arduino. The results of this research showed that the drying process of bricks only takes 6 hours and the implementation of the dryer system and automatic brick burner based on the Arduino microcontroller successfully done with the value of KP = 4 and KD = 0.05 so that the bricks that have been qualified with the final weight of the average after the drying process and combustion was 962.5 grams.
