Abstract

Comparison processing of POME by electrocoagulation method before and after the addition consortium of aerobic bacteria (bacillus cereus and burkholderia cepacia) have been done. This study aims to determine the effect and comparison of electrocoagulation using advanced POME from the POME degradation process using a bacterial consortium then compare it with the electrocoagulation method with POME without the degradation process using a bacterial consortium. In processing with open ponds it will cause a greenhouse effect because of this, Crude Palm Oil (CPO) products from Indonesia are issued for sale to Europe, so this method is expected to reduce waste levels, causing changes to the environment. The test parameters used were based on the quality standards of palm oil mill effluents including pH, TDS, TSS, COD, oil and fat, the final parameters of iron and copper. The first measurement was using the electrocoagulation method without a bacterial consortium and the best results were obtained for reducing the waste content at 6 ampare with 3 hours. POME was degraded with a bacterial consortium for 12 days. It was found that the degradation time affected the decrease in waste content until the best time was on the 12th day, after which the 12th day bioreactor waste was followed by the electrocoagulation method with more bacterial consortium better than just electrocoagulation even though in some parameters the difference is not so great. Comparison of the best results on electrocoagulation and electrocoagulation with bacterial consortium respectively: pH 7,9000 and 7,8100, TDS 1610,88 mg/L and 1582,9 mg/L, TSS 43,333 mg/L and 27 mg/L, COD 192 mg/L and 21,33 mg/L, Oil and fat 18,33 mg/L and 18,37 mg/L, Iron metal 1,2834 mg/L and 1,2834 mg/L, Metal Cu <0,0113 mg/L and <0,0113 mg/L.
