Abstract

Bioethanol is a fuel which produced from a rich natural material containing cellulose, one of them is a empty palm fruit bund (EPFP). This research has made bioethanol from oil empty fruit bunch as main substance. Research corsisted of ozonolysis pretreatment, hydrilysis using NaOH and fermentation with yeast (S.cerevisiae). The result of ozonolysis pretreatment showed that celulose increased from 24% to 44%, lignin content from 22% to 7% and hemiselulose content from 29% to 20% respectively. The optimum time of hydrolysis was 15 minute while the concentration of NaOH 5% was 4,48%, and the highest production of ethanol compounds was in the third day that was 0,020%. Based on data, ethanol produced in this research is very low and indicated that the production of bioethanol was not optimal condition.
