Abstract

Tooth growth and development such as tooth eruption is part of the body's growth and development in general, influenced by genetic and environmental factors. Environmental factors such as gestational age and prenatal environment such as premature birth babies, low birth weight / LBW and impaired growth of tooth development can affect tooth eruption. The purpose of this study was to determine the correlation of primary tooth eruption in premature babies. This research is a cross sectional retrospective study conducted at RSUP Dr Mohammad Hoesin Palembang. Research subjects were children aged 6-24 months, history of preterm birth and normal birth as controls. Eruption of primary teeth based on the number of teeth that have erupted. The sampling technique is purposive sampling, as many as 52 children; 26 children were born prematurely (gestational age <37 weeks) and 26 children were born normal (gestational age 37-41 weeks) as controls. The results of the chi square test have a significant correlation when the eruption of deciduous teeth in premature prelates is slower than normal birth children resulting in a significance value of p <0.05. Conclusion: time of deciduous teeth eruption in children born prematurely is slower than normal birth children. Keywords: Birth status, eruption of primary teeth, premature birth
