Abstract

Jackfruit leaves (Artocarpus heterophyllus Lmk.) contain flavonoid, tanin and saponin compounds which have the potential as antibacterial. A research of antibacterial activity test fractionation of ethanol extract jackfruit was formulated in gel has been conducted. Antibacterial test against strain of acne causing bacteria. There are three formula using extract concentrations in a row is 5, 10, and 15% and negative controls containing only a gel base. Jackfruit leaves were extracted by macerating using 96% ethanol solvent and then fractionating using n-hexane. Total flavonoids test using Uv-Vis spectrophotometry resulted in 37.82 mgEQ/g. the result of one way ANOVA statistical analysis showed that variations in the concentration of extracts used in formula affected pH, adhesion, washability and viscosity of gel evaluation. Formula II 5% has qualify of gel evaluation. Antibacterial activity showed jackfruit leaves ethanol extract can inhibit the bacteria Propionibacterium acnes. The higher concentration of extract used can increase the antibacterial activity. The inhibitory zone generated by the gel with extract concentration of 5 and 10% in a row is 4.16 ± 2.29 mm and 7.37 ± 0.68 mm. Gel gives the best antibacterial activity FIII with 15% extract concentration with inhibitory zone of 10.9 ± 1.18 mm.
