Abstract

Dengue hemorrhagic fever (DHF) is caused by dengue virus through the bite of the Aedes aegypti mosquito. Biological control is safe using compositions that have the natural larvicidal effect of a plant. This study aimed to find out the activity of larvicides from ethanol extract of purple sweet potato leaves (Ipomoea batatas L. Poir) as natural larvasides against Aedes aegypti mosquitoes. The yield of ethanol extract of purple sweet potato leaves is 22,81 % (w / v), has a distinctive odor, bitter taste, brown color, and has a thick shape like jam. The study used 7 groups each contain 25 larvae. Instar larvae I used concentrations of 200 ppm, 300 ppm, 400 ppm, 500 ppm and 600 ppm, while instar larvae III used concentrations of 800 ppm, 1100 ppm, 1400 ppm, 1400 ppm, 1700 ppm and 2000 ppm. The results of probit analysis using linear regression method obtained LC50 instar I at a concentration of 516,59 ppm, LC99 at a concentration of 1322,26 ppm, while LC50 instar III at a concentration of 943,81 ppm, and LC99 at a concentration of 1814,01 ppm. LT50 value of instar I was obtained at 621,75 minutes (10,35 hours) and LT99 at 2107,08 minutes (35,11 hours). LT50 values of instar III was obtained at 162,08 minutes (2,70 hours) and LT99 at 1417,98 minutes (23,63 hours). Good larvaside concentration of LT50 under 72 hours and the results of statistical analysis showed that the ethanol extract of purple sweet potato leaves has the potential larvaside with Abate® at a concentration of 2000 ppm.
