Abstract

The main component of the Wireless Fidelity (Wi-Fi) network is the access point. This device can transmit signals to and from the receiver. This study aims to analyze the placement of Access Points in Department of Electrical Engineering at Sriwijaya University Inderalaya. There are six access points in Department of Electrical Engineering that spread on the 1st and 2nd floor. This research was conducted with inSSIDer and Received Signal Strength Indicator (RSSI) method and One Slope Model. From the results of measurements that have been done, almost all of the access points have been worked properly based on RSSI standard which is between -30 dBm to -80 dBm. The Basic Telecommunications System Laboratory has an access point that had not work properly with a signal strength value of -57 dBm up to -83 dBm. The highest signal strength was obtained in one of Basic Telecommunications System Laboratory room so the access point in this location must be optimized by moving the access point to the middle of this laboratory using the RSSI Method. The result is the signal strength became -79.47 dBm.
