Abstract

Basil leaves is one of the plants that have properties in the health sector, namely as an antioxidant, antibacterial, anticancer, and aromatherapy. Technology in the health sector is always being developed, including the use of nanotechnology as a drug delivery system. This study aims to make and know the characteristics of extract basil leaves nanoparticles (Ocimum Citriodorum) using the ionic gelation method. Making basil leaf extract (Ocimun Citriodorum) using the maceration method using 96% ethanol solvent and continued with the evaporation process until a thick extract with (%) rendeman of 36.049% is formed. Making nanoparticles by ionic gelation method using chitosan 0.08% and Sodium tripolyphosphate (NaTPP) 0.01% (8:1). Then the extract basil leaves nanoparticles were characterized by Dynamic Light Scattering method to determine the particle size distribution. The nanoparticles produced were clear green liquid with a particle size distribution of 256.3 - 258.7 nm. Keywords: extract of basil leaves, nanoparticles, characteristics
