Abstract

The objective of this research was to determine the performance of Dye Sensitized Solar Cell (DSSC) by using extract of kenikir flower as photosensitizer on various thicknesses of TiO2 paste and light intesity. The intensity of light used is 445.7 W/m2, 205.4 W/m2 and 100.8 W/m2, while the thickness of TiO2 paste used is 0.247 mm, 0.3705 mm, 0.494 mm, 0.617 mm and 0.741 mm. The research was conducted from October 2016 until December 2017 at the Laboratory of Chemistry of Agricultural Product, and Laboratory of Energy and Electrification, Department of Agricultural Technology, Faculty of Agriculture, University of Sriwijaya. This research consisted of three stages: preparation of DSCC structure, arrangement and assembly of DSSC sandwich, and performance analysis. The parameters observed were spectral absorbance of dye extracted from kenikir flower, the characteristics of current and voltage (I-V), power, fill factor and efficiency of DSSC. The analysis of absorbance dye from extract kenikir flower showed the highest absorbance peak lies at 400 nm wavelength with a value of 0.858. The analysis of electrical characteristic showed that DSSC with light intensity 445.7 W/m2 at thickness of TiO2 0.494 mm paste gave best performance with Voc, Isc, Vmax, Imax, Pmax, FF and efficiency are 206 mV, 0,050 mA, 78 mV, 0.034 mA, 2.660 mW, 0.257 and 1.233% respectively. DSSC with light intensity of 100.8 W/m2 at thickness of TiO2 0.247 mm paste gave the lowest performance with Voc, Isc, Vmax, Imax, Pmax, FF, and efficiency are 32.4 mV, 0.003 mA, 8.2 mV, 0.002 mA, 0.018 mW, 0.174 and 0.037% respectively.
