Abstract

The purpose of this study was to determine the effect of reducing blood glucose levels in the ethanol extract of cempedak leaves (Artocarpus champeden (Lour.) Stokes) and to determine the ED50 value of the various doses of ethanol extract cempedak’s leaves. Cempedak leaf contains secondary metabolites of flavonoids, steroids, saponins, and tannins. Total flavonoid levels contained in cempedak leaf extract is 94.3069 mg/g extract with a percentage of 18.8614%. The study began with Wistar strain male rats divided into 6 groups: normal group, positive control (Metformine 151,4 mg/kgBW), negative control (0,5% NaCMC), group I (EEDC 100 mg/kgBW), group II (EEDC 200 mg/kgBW), and group III (EEDC 400 mg/kgBW). Rats were induced with a high-fat and fructose diet for 30 days to increase blood glucose levels leading to type 2 diabetes mellitus, then ethanol extract of cempedak leaves was given for the next 15 days. The results showed that ethanol extract of cempedak leaf was able to reduce blood glucose levels in rats where there was a significant difference compared to the negative control group (p<0,05). Based on the relation of the %PKGD and extract dose, the ED50 value of ethanol extract cempedak’s leaves is 226.02 mg/kgBW.
