Abstract

Research on the preparation and characterization of submicro particles chitosan-alginate carrier of ethanol extract of jackfruit leaf with sonication time variation has been done. This research aims to determine the optimal sonication time and to determine the characterizations of submicro particles including particle size, PDI, %EE, zeta potensial and XRD spectrum. This research began with extraction process on jackfruit leaves using maceration method with 96% ethanol solvent continued with phytochemical scrinning. The ionic gelation was chosen in the making of submicro particles with a component consisting of jackfruit leaf extract, chitosan, natrium alginate, and CaCl2 as a crosslinker with sonication time variation 15, 30 and 60 minutes. The best formula obtained is at a time variation of 60 minutes with an encapsulation efficiency value of 95,863%. The particle size characteristics of the formula obtained were 244,2 nm; PDI 0,227; and zeta potensial +26,367. Based on the XRD spectrum of the best formula, it is known that submicro particles of jackfruit leaf extract has an amorphous form. The results of one way ANOVA, post hoc Tukey and LSD parametric analysis showed differences in sonication time affected time %EE of each formula with a significance value of p<0,05.
