Abstract

This research study on the development of drama text based on the Malay History version of W. G. Shellabear has the aim to produce drama scripts that can be used in drama learning in class. In addition, researchers have the intention to introduce the Malay History text to students because at this time the Malay History text is being forgotten. Though the text is very full of historical, social, cultural and religious values. The method used in this research is the Borg and Gall research and development (R&D) method. Drama scripts that have been developed are validated by several validators covering aspects of content / substance, linguistic, graphic and presentation techniques. The instruments used in this study were questionnaires and validation sheets. This drama script was developed based on the results of an analysis of the needs of students and teachers. The validity test by the substance expert gets a score of 43 with a percentage value of 78.18% (Valid), the validity test of the linguist gets a score of 28 with a percentage value of 80% (Valid), the validity test of the graphic expert and the presentation technique gets a score of 41 with a percentage value of 91, 11% (Very Valid). This drama script has also been tested for its effectiveness by looking at students' understanding which includes the contents of the Malay History text. The average acquisition value of pretest is 61.25 and the average posttest score is 80. This drama script is classified as effective because as many as 86.6% of students get posttest scores above 75.
