Abstract

This research was conducted by the aim of making ethanol fraction of red ginger extract (Zingiber officinale var. rubrum Theilade) by varying the concentration of CaCl2. This research was carried out to determine the effect of concentration variation of CaCl2 at Ethanol Fraction Nanoparticles of Red Ginger Rhizome Extract. The variation of CaCl2 concentration used were 20 µL, 40 µL, and 100 µL. The research began with the extraction process of red ginger using 96% ethanol and then continued with phytochemical screening. Chemical compounds contained in red ginger extract are alkaloids, triterpenoids, flavonoids, saponins, and tanins. The extract used was red ginger rhizome extract with the addition of chitosan and sodium alginate polymers and CaCl2 crosslinker. The fractionation method used is liquid-liquid fractionation which aims to obtain a viscous extract of ethanol soluble compounds. Making nanoparticles was carried out using the ionic gelation method. Nanoparticles were characterized using PSA instruments to determine particle size, PDI (Poly Dispersity Index), and zeta potential. The best formula of nanoparticles is formula one which has an encapsulation efficiency percent value 92,4658% and has a particle size characteristic value about 355,7 nm; a PDI value is 0,253; and a potential zeta value is 37,2.
