Abstract

Plastics waste that is difficult to decompose has the potential to be used as material for making paving blocks that can reduce the amount of plastic waste. This study aims to utilize Polyethylene Terephtalate (PET), Low Densily PolyEthylene (LDPE), and PolyPropylene (PP) plastics waste as paving block material and determine the physical feasibility of paving blocks made of these materials. The method used was factorial randomized block design using type of raw materials and the type of fillers. Each combination was repeated three times in three groups. Treatment A: Type of raw materials (kg), A1 : Plastic waste Polyethylene Terephtalate (PET) 90%, A2 : Low Density PolyEthylene (LDPE) 90%, and A3 : PolyPropyiene (PP) 90%. Treatment B : Fillers type (kg), B1 : Rice straw 10%, B2 : Coconut fiber 10%, and B3 : Wood dust 10%. The observed parameters were dimensions and external appearance, bulk density, and compressive strength. The results showed that the type of raw materials had significant effect on length, width, and compressive strength. Type of filler materials had significant effect on length, volume, content weight and compressive strength, while the interaction between the two had a significant effect on volume, bulk density and compressive strength. The highest average volume of 146 cm3 was found in com¬bination A1B1. The average of controlled volume of 107,56 cm3 was found in combination A3B3. The highest average bulk density value of 852,132 kg/cm3 was found in combination of A3B3. The lowest average bulk density of 625,056 kg/cm3 was found in combination A1B1. The highest compressive strength of 183,486 kg/cm2 was found in combination A3B3. The lowest compressive of 67,396 kg/cm2 was found in combination of A2B1 and A2B3, respectively.
