Abstract

This study examines the “Strengthening of Social Capital At the Community of Women Survivors of Cancer (the Study On the Cancer Information And Support Center of South Sumatra)”. The problem of this research is about the form and the process of strengthening social capital and bottlenecks in the strengthening of social capital. The research method used is descriptive qualitative research methods, the determination of informants in a purposive, data collection Techniques in-depth interviews, observation, and documentation of this study using the theory of Social Capital Putnam. The results of this study indicate a strengthening of the social capital existing in the community of CISC there is a belief in yourself, belief in your fellow members, trust in medical treatment, the trust against the guarantee of health of the government, network with local government, solidarity among members, and health norms that must be obeyed. There are also obstacles in the strengthening of social capital such as lack of family support in doing the treatment, couples who leave a cancer survivor, trust in alternative medicine, there is no halfway house of the government, and the assumption that society is mistaken in looking at the survivors of cancer. The strengthening of social capital is done in order to give benefits to the survivors of cancer itself so he can accept himself with the disease as well as to be able to actualize himself which in the end will also provide support to fellow cancer survivors to remain excited about life.
